Melissa Smith, CSWA
Melissa Smith is a Clinical Social Work Associate working for Gentle Breeze Counseling to provide mental health therapy to children, youth, adults and families. Melissa earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at Humboldt State University and is currently pursuing state licensure in clinical social work.
Melissa works with individuals experiencing struggles related to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, intimate partner violence, life transitions, self-esteem, relational issues and more. Melissa’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, strength-based and person-centered with a holistic focus that observes the interconnectedness of the mind, body and spirit. She works with children as young as four, utilizing play therapy to provide developmentally appropriate therapeutic support.
Whether in the office, outside or face-to-face virtually, Melissa is passionate about creating a warm, nonjudgmental and empowering environment where every person feels safe, seen and heard. Her intention is to support individuals in identifying and accomplishing their wellness goals in order to move toward self-acceptance, self-love, hope and healing. It is important to Melissa to provide culturally and spiritually responsive, LGBTQ+ affirming care that celebrates the full identities of every individual. Some of Melissa’s favorite things include time with family and friends, reading and trips to the beach.
